Concept of Sainik Schools
Sainik Schools, conceived in 1961 by V. K. Menon, the then Defence Minister of India, are established and managed by the Sainik School Society under the Ministry of Defence. The primary objective of Sainik Schools was to rectify the regional and class imbalance amongst officer cadre of the Indian Military and prepared students to enter National Defence Academy, Indian Naval Academy. Sainik Schools come under the purview of espective state Governments and Ministry of Defence. Currently there are 33 such schools covering all the states of the Country.
Sainik Schools, a joint venture of the Central and State Governments under the Sainik Schools Society, Ministry of Defence, aim to prepare boys academically, physically, and mentally for entry into the NDA. From the academic session 2021-22, girls' cadets have also been admitted.
History
Sainik School, Amaravathi Nagar, was started in 16 Jul 1962 as part of the Sainik School society. It was called Sainik School, Madras (SSM) until 1975. Sainik School, Amaravathinagar, was formed with the objective of training cadets to join the National Defence Academy - NDA (NDA provides combined training for the cadets entering into all the three forces in India). Students are selected through an entrance examination
